Your Personal Bin Directory

My personal Linux pet peeve is the complete anarchy around a user’s personal bin directory. I have to use and test on many different Linux distros so this annoys me more than most. Some people start with one major Linux distro and they stick with it all their lives. They don’t even change desktops. When you are writing software you can tell people “well it works on my system!” Well, you can, but that is … Your Personal Bin DirectoryRead more

Manjaro 5.15 LTS and BOINC

Manjaro and BOINC have had a troubled relationship over the years. Perhaps you read my previous post on this matter. The machine I’m using today is an HP EliteDesk G2. You will notice I’m using the built in Intel graphics so we won’t have any NVIDIA issues to deal with. Later I may stick in a NVIDIA NVS 310 Quadro and experiment with the Hybrid driver. It’s an interesting concept, but a diversion for this … Manjaro 5.15 LTS and BOINCRead more

Manjaro XFCE Desktop Goes Away

Don’t you just hate it when your desktop goes away? You are toggling between the three-twelve systems you have hooked up to your dual monitor KVM and the one system you really need to use decides to turn off the desktop and displays. Lots of reports 5.13 … Manjaro XFCE Desktop Goes AwayRead more

Why Manjaro is Taking Over

I’ve written about Manjaro many times on this blog. Other than a lack of testing with NVidia cards/drivers, it’s hard to find fault with this distro. They are definitely doing a better job than Canonical with Ubuntu. I had made my peace with the poor performance of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, believing it a price worth paying for the embedded systems development support. Testing out 22.04 changed all of that. Granted my machines are a long … Why Manjaro is Taking OverRead more

PageEdit – BlueGriffin

PageEdit is a true pleasure for editing html files that will be use for things like online documentation or even in-app help. For many years I used BlueGriffon but the last update of that was 2019 and some Linux distros have dropped inclusion. Technically they only supported Ubuntu, but AUR had a build as did other places. Given Ubuntu’s massive bloat and sluggish performance since the 20.04 release (getting far worse with 22.04) people are … PageEdit – BlueGriffinRead more
