Starlink has a catastrophic architectural failure which is a shining example of why Agile can never be allowed even as close as the parking lot to any project of any size. If you attended a so-called University and they taught you Agile, you attended a Trump University<\/a> and should sue to get your money back. Absolutely no business should recognize your degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agile is just hacking on the fly until the money runs out. Starlink is proof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real Software Engineering<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Real Software Engineering is Waterfall. It requires formal SDLC. More importantly, it requires an Application Architect and a Systems Architect to be involved during the planning stages. It requires you to document all intended use cases for a new product and how you intend to support them <\/em>before the first line of code is written.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is this important?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The intent\/marketing of Starlink is to provide Internet in rural areas where Internet options either don’t exist or truly suck. American Indian reservations, rural America in general, third world countries, and the war zone of Ukraine. Can we agree on this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Facebook and Google there are roughly four billion people without Internet access<\/a>. This is why both of them are experimenting with drones, balloons, and lasers (something I talk about using in the sequel to this book<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guess what those four billion people also do not have?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The vast majority of them also don’t have cell service. On many Native American Indian reservations people have to use a shared land line. Rough terrane and lack of investment are the reasons tossed about. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The real reason is they don’t have fiber. Without black or even first generation fiber optic cable in the ground you can’t have reliable cell service, period. Anyone who has had line-of-sight Internet knows this first hand. Rather than paying for the hardware and fiber access at each cell tower where they mount a radio, they daisy chain. When cell towers are not near fiber they do the same thing.<\/p>\n\n\n

Old fashioned Christmas tree lights did the same thing. In their case one bad bulb took out the entire string of lights because electricity needs to complete a circuit and in order to do that it had to pass through<\/em> each bulb. Modern strings of lights aren’t wired the same way. When you daisy chain cell towers or line-of-sight Internet you only get partial bandwidth (some is reserved for relaying the communications from the other towers) and one tower takes out everything else after it. The closer the tower is to the fiber the larger blast radius of your outage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back to the catastrophic architectural failure of Starlink<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You cannot hack on the fly (Agile) sprint after sprint and expect a valid architectural design to shit itself out the ass end of a sprint. Real Software Engineering requires the proper people be involved with the design before the first line of code is written. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guess what the Agile “geniuses” decided to do? After coding a control page into the router for pointing and rebooting<\/p>\n\n\n

They wrote an app that requires an iMbecile phone to configure all other aspects of the router\/pizza box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An iMbecile phone is the most insecure device on the planet. Paragon’s GRAPHITE<\/a> and Pegasus<\/a> by the Israeli cyber-arms company NSO Group are two of the most widely used commercial spyware products on the market. God only knows how many non-commercial Dark Web products one can find. You fools put banking information on your iMbecile phones!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
