You can still see what is important. It is that 1 MiB BIOS Boot partition. I originally installed Mint on this 1TB SSD when it was in a really old AMD 6-core computer. Like the computer  moved the drive to, it can, but it does not default to EFI boot. One has to change the BIOS settings. When I replaced the battery on the Mobo, that was one of the settings I missed changing back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You see, Mint (and probably most other Linux distros) the hardware wants a standard DOS boot. So, that 1 MiB BIOS Boot partition gets created with just enough code to launch the EFI partition. The typical end user thinks the machine booked from UEFI because that&#8217;s what it <em>looks<\/em> like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grub no like it<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Grub update process is poorly tested. Yes, I&#8217;ve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/information-technology\/screen-jitter\/\">given you Grub hacks before<\/a>, but this isn&#8217;t a Grub hack. If you are dual booting Windows XP or some other gotta have a DOS boot OS, all you can do is file a bug report. Once you have that set, reboot, wipe the drive, and re-install. When you check the drive that odd little BIOS Boot partition won&#8217;t be there. Given the dearth of useful books on the subject he ventured into the world of professional author in 1995 writing the first of the \"Zinc It!\" book series for John Gordon Burke Publisher, Inc. A decade later he released a massive (nearly 800 pages) tome \"The Minimum You Need to Know to Be an OpenVMS Application Developer\" which tried to encapsulate the essential skills gained over what was nearly a 20 year career at that point. From there \"The Minimum You Need to Know\" book series was born. Three years later he wrote his first novel \"Infinite Exposure\" which got much notice from people involved in the banking and financial security worlds. Some of the attacks predicted in that book have since come to pass. While it was not originally intended to be a trilogy, it became the first book of \"The Earth That Was\" trilogy: Infinite Exposure Lesedi - The Greatest Lie Ever Told John Smith - Last Known Survivor of the Microsoft Wars When he is not consulting Roland Hughes posts about technology and sometimes politics on his blog.
