After a few days of playing around with my new toy, I decided to install a bunch of software to make it my full time writing device. Of course the software installs required updates because this is a rolling distribution. After applying the updates, I could not boot unless I had a hard wired network connection. Some poking around on-line proved this was an Acer BIOS\/Hardware problem. It also provided a solution.<\/p>\n

\u00a0At power on, hit F2 to get into setup menu.<\/p>\n

Go to the Boot menu option.<\/p>\n

Change your boot device order to look like this:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u00a0Atheros Network<\/li>\n
  2. USB FDD<\/li>\n
  3. USB HDD<\/li>\n
  4. USB CDROM<\/li>\n
  5. ATAPI CDROM<\/li>\n
  6. HDD<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u00a0Atheros must be first and your local hard drive last. This causes the linux systems to configure the network in such a way as the conflict between hardwired and wireless is removed. NEVER BOOT WITH A NETWORK CABLE PLUGGED IN as it will try to boot from the network.<\/p>\n
