You install a new Ubuntu release and sh*t doesn&#8217;t work. It&#8217;s really frustrating when it is sh*t that has worked for years. Well, here is how you fix it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buffalo (and I suspect some other brands) are horribly behind when it comes to network standards and security. More importantly they never seem to push updates out for these things. I guess that is why they are cheap. What screwed you in Ubuntu 20.04 is a new default minimum standard for network communications. You are going to have to bookmark this fix and refer to it every time you upgrade to a new Ubuntu release until your Buffalo drive dies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding insult to injury, Ubuntu no longer installs the needed packages by default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"975\" height=\"228\" src=\"https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-fix-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3721\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-fix-2.png 975w, https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-fix-2-300x70.png 300w, https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-fix-2-768x180.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 975px) 100vw, 975px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When you select samba-common it will automatically select some other packages. Do this using Synaptic package manager, not that other <em>thing<\/em> you find in the sidebar menu. When you are done it will look like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"928\" height=\"164\" src=\"https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-install.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3722\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-install.png 928w, https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-install-300x53.png 300w, https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-install-768x136.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 928px) 100vw, 928px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next you need to open a terminal window and edit a file which didn&#8217;t exist until you installed those packages. I always keep Jed installed on Linux machines for just such ocassions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo jed \/etc\/samba\/smb.conf<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"398\" height=\"183\" src=\"https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-fix-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3723\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-fix-1.png 398w, https:\/\/www.logikalsolutions.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/samba-fix-1-300x138.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You want to add the client line where I show it in the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">client min protocol = NT1<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Save the file and reboot.
