Zero Dark Thirty

Rare is the time I will plunk down $10 to see a movie in the theater. Even rarer is the time I walk out feeling I got my money’s worth. This movie delivers on all counts! Definitely see it in the theater.  Forget about all of the news and brew-ha-ha in the press. What each and everyone of those stories overlooks, and this one spells out rather plainly, is just how many people the CIA lost tracking UBL. It is quite a compelling docudrama. Well worth your time and money in the theater.

John Carter

What can I say? Walt Disney needs to take a page from the play book of the Chinese government. They need to take their entire marketing department outside, line them up against the wall and shoot just like the Chinese government did with the dude who took the bribe over antifreeze in toothpaste. Was this as racy and as adult as a lot of the Sci-Fi I like, no? Was it a bad flick? No. It was the kind of Sci-Fi you can take the entire family to see which meant a lot of the spicier stuff we like had to be left out. This movie had Disney’s name on it. That name, like the name Taylor Swift, is targeted…

The Robins Keep Us as Pets Now

I remember long ago the summers of my youth on a farm. Back there and back then a farm really was a farm. No matter what you said you raised as a farmer, you always had a barn with livestock. You may have told the world you were a corn and soybean farmer, but you still had a few head of cattle, sheep, and/or hogs in a barn. When the kids got big enough they were assigned the chores of feeding, bailing hay, and cleaning out the barn in the spring and the fall. Everyone had a barn. Every barn with livestock had one thing in common, cats magically grew there. We called them “barn kitties.” They were never house…

Child Hunger Ends With You

It is an inexcusable and undeniable fact that in this country which tosses out enough feed weekly to feed a small third world nation that we have an unbelievable number of children who face starvation on a regular basis. They go to bed each night not knowing if they will eat tomorrow, even if they did not eat today. What is more inexcusable is the fact you can put an end to it without making a donation or changing your lifestyle in any way. How? http://www.childhungerendshere.com/Html/Index.html ConAgra has taken made this cause a personal fight. Sadly, most of you have not bothered. If you have an office job, you know what that means when it comes to lunch. Most days…

What We Choose to Remember Isn’t Usually What We Should Remember

Another Memorial Day is upon us. If you happen to be somewhere nice enough to be outside, then you are most likely enjoying it. Others, those trapped inside, are either chatting on-line or watching a series “all day marathon” or one of the seemingly countless WWII movies which every other station saves for just such holidays. I used to enjoy watching them when I was a child and they were “new to me.” Many of those movies have “The Duke” staring in them, so you cannot be an American without liking them, but lately, I’ve begun wondering what they left out. Recently, I finished watching “The Pacific”. I watched most of it with my father and was shocked at how…
