★★★★★ I must confess up front that I seem to always like John Cusack in a movie. I was kind of shocked to stroll by the under $5 discount bin and see this movie on top of the pile. Odd that I had never heard of it. Naturally it went into the cart. Yes an actual shopping cart as I was in an actual store. Mr. Cusack is one of those gifted actors. Even in a bad movie he can shine. I’m not just saying that because he is a fellow Illinoisan, I really mean it. Thankfully you don’t have to worry about that because this movie is fantastic! Unless it went straight to DVD, I am befuddled as to how I did not hear about this movie. It is…

Does anybody else feel completely ripped off with this movie?  I really should say “half a movie” because that is all it was.  We have far too many MBAs in this country.  All of them seem to be trying to sell people a great big nothing.  Instead of one good movie we will now get two, perhaps three, not-worth-an-afternoon-if-they-are-free movies.  It’s sad.  So very sad.  Everything is becoming Walmart quality, worth neither time nor money.

This Saturday I visited the local Big Lots and dug through their bins of $3 and $5 movies. This pursuit has become quite regular since Block Buster ended its DVD by mail business and I have found a suitable replacement. No, Netflix is neither suitable nor a replacement. I don’t mind buying up “end lot” DVDs. There appear to be actual “new” DVDs appearing in this market. I don’t mean first run, I mean “new” packages. There seems to be an increasing number of multiple movie DVDs showing up in the $5-$7 price range. Many of these are really old movies which seem to be making another run at financial prosperity by getting bundled together. I picked up a 12 military movie package, as well as a 4 movie and…

Another Memorial Day is upon us. If you happen to be somewhere nice enough to be outside, then you are most likely enjoying it. Others, those trapped inside, are either chatting on-line or watching a series “all day marathon” or one of the seemingly countless WWII movies which every other station saves for just such holidays. I used to enjoy watching them when I was a child and they were “new to me.” Many of those movies have “The Duke” staring in them, so you cannot be an American without liking them, but lately, I’ve begun wondering what they left out. Recently, I finished watching “The Pacific”. I watched most of it with my father and was shocked at how much they left out. They didn’t leave it out, they…

From time to time I post here to let you know about DVDs to put on your rental list. Food, Inc. is quite possibly the best documentary I’ve watched in a long time. I grew up and still live on a functioning family farm. I can tell you from personal experience they didn’t miss much when they wrote this documentary. It is the most accurate and informative agribusiness documentary I’ve ever seen. You really need to get this on your list quickly. As the documentary will tell you it is illegal to show images from inside of slaughter houses or say anything bad about a hamburger. No joke. Congress sold our freedom of speech down the river when it comes to these things. As a result, I expect the people…
